Lesson No. 20

Word # 1

Transgressor (noun)

Definition: One, who go beyond the limits and act in violation of law / someone who violates a law or command


Sentence: 1. The system seems to be designed to punish the transgressor rather than help his victim. 2. Those are the rules, and transgressor who transgresses will be severely punished.



Word # 2

Usury (noun)

Definition: the lending of money at an exorbitant rate of interest / the activity of lending someone money with the agreement that they will pay back a very much larger amount of money later

Sentence: 1. The Quran and The Bible condemns usury. 2. Usury will become rampant (increasing quickly and in an uncontrolled way) in coming years. 3. He charges high usury to James because he doesn't usually pay in time.



Word # 3

Booty (noun)

Definition: stolen goods / any valuable things or money stolen by an army at war or by thieves

Sentence: 1. Pirates took booty from ships they captured. 2. But, instead of pleasure and booty, I gained on this expedition nothing but discomfort and drenching, which resulted in a violent cold. 3. He gave winnings and booty with lavish hand, and every beggar was sure of assistance.


Word # 4

Enunciate (verb)

Definition: pronounce / utter vividly / to pronounce words or parts of words clearly

Sentence: 1. Nobody can understand a word Bob says because he doesn't enunciate properly. 2. Please enunciate your words formally and clearly. 3. He doesn't enunciate very clearly.


Word # 5

Allude (verb)

Definition: to refer casually or indirectly / to mention someone or something without talking about them directly

Sentence: 1. He often eluded to his poverty. 2. She mentioned some trouble that she'd had at home and I guessed she was alluding to her son. 3. My boss alluded that there would be a bonus at the end of the year when he said my performance would be rewarded.
