Word # 1

Corpse (noun)

Definition: dead body of a human being, something no longer useful


Sentence: 1. We will bury the corpse in the cemetery. 2. The woman was hesitant to see her husband's corpse. 


Word # 2

Effigy (noun)

Definition: a model or other object which represents someone, especially one of a hated person which is hung or burnt in a public place / Symbolic corpse

Sentence: 1. Crowds marched through the streets carrying burning effigies of the president. 2. An effigy of company owner has been burned in front of factory but his spokesman said he "stands by his comments". 3. The protesters carried a dummy that looked like President Bush and set the effigy on fire.



Word # 3

Admonish (verb)

Definition: to tell someone that they have done something wrong / warn strongly; put on guard / to advise someone to do something

Sentence: 1. His mother admonished him for eating too quickly. 2. He should admonish his child for her bad behavior. 3. Please don't admonish me for not cleaning the kitchen. 4. Her teacher admonished her to work harder for her exams.



Word # 4

Depict (verb)

Definition: represent / describe / to represent or show something in a picture or story

Sentence: 1. Her paintings depict the lives of ordinary people in the last century. 2. The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota in 1987. 3. In the book, he depicts his father as a tyrant.


Word # 5

Commotion (noun)

Definition: a sudden short period of noise, confusion or excited movement / the act of making a noisy disturbance / sudden confused movement

Sentence: 1. The arrival of the movie stars caused quite a commotion on the college campus. 2. He looked up to see what all the commotion was about. 3. The suggested bill made a huge commotion among the politicians.
