Word # 1

Manhandle (verb)
Definition: to handle roughly / to touch or hold someone roughly and with force, often when taking them somewhere / handle (someone) roughly by dragging or pushing / move (a heavy object) by hand with great effort

Sentence: 1. The policeman manhandled the suspect to the ground. 2. There were complaints that the police had manhandled some of the demonstrators. 3. Men used to manhandle the piano down the stairs 4. John watched the Trojans manhandle the Cavaliers in a style that was similar to the national championship.


Word # 2

Skyscraper (noun)

Definition: A very tall modern building, usually found in large cities / a very tall building of many storeys

 

Sentence: 1. Some people like to live in a skyscraper. 2. A new skyscraper to be built in Dubai will have floors that rotate on command, resulting in a constantly changing shape. 3. Just last Wednesday, it became the second tallest skyscraper ever built, surpassing Taiwan's 509-metre Taipei 101.


Word # 3

Whine (verb)

Definition: utter complaining noise / to make a long, high, sad sound / give or make a long, high-pitched complaining cry or sound / talk in tearful manner

 

Sentence: 1. The dog whined and scratched at the back door. 2. Forgive me when i whine! 3. She began to whine about how hard she had been forced to work. 4. ‘My legs ache,’ he whined.


Word # 4

Mar (verb)

Definition: to spoil / to spoil something, making it less perfect or less enjoyable / impair

 

Sentence: 1. Violence marred a number of New Year celebrations. 2. Nothing will mar her beauty. 3. Sadly, the text is marred by careless errors. 4. The holiday was marred by bad weather. 5.  Choices we make will make or mar us through our lifetime.


Word # 5

Gory (adjective)

Definition: involving violence or blood / involving or showing violence and bloodshed / covered in blood / accompanied by bloodshed

 

Sentence: 1. The gory details of the killings have been highlighted. 2. A very gory film 3. The gory details of the operation. 4. She told him the gory details of her past.
