Word # 1

Sublime (adjective)

Definition: extremely good, beautiful or enjoyable / very great / of very great excellence or beauty / tending to inspire awe usually because of elevated quality (as of beauty, nobility, or grandeur)
       
Sentence: 1. Switzerland has sublime scenery. 2. The book contains sublime descriptive passages. 3. He possesses sublime self-confidence. 4. She is famous for her sublime beauty. 5. A sublime dinner


Word # 2

Tenable (adjective)

Definition: able to be maintained or defended against attack or objection / capable of being held, maintained, or defended: defensible, reasonable / (of an opinion or position) able to be defended successfully or held for a particular period of time

 

Sentence: 1. His theory is no longer tenable in light of the recent discoveries. 2. Such a simplistic approach is no longer tenable. 3. A scholarship of £200 per annum tenable for three years. 4. Making money with no product or service is not a tenable idea, you may be thinking.


Word # 3

Babble (verb)

Definition: to talk or say something in a quick, confused, excited or silly way / talk rapidly and continuously in a foolish, excited, or incomprehensible way / to utter meaningless or unintelligible sounds

 

Sentence: 1. The children babbled excitedly among themselves. 2. Thank goodness you’re all right,’ she babbled. 3. Pay no attention to her. She's just babbling. 4. He'll babble on about sports all night if you let him. 5. She was babbling something about her ring being stolen.


Word # 4

Contempt (noun)

Definition: a strong feeling of disliking and having no respect for someone or something / the feeling that a person or a thing is worthless or deserving scorn / the feeling with which a person regards anything considered mean, vile, or worthless; disdain; scorn.
 

Sentence: 1. At school she had complete contempt for all her teachers. 2. Pam stared at the girl with total contempt. 3. He feels that wealthy people view him with contempt because he is poor. 4. He spoke with contempt in his voice.



Word # 5

Anticipate (verb)

Definition: imagine possible / foresee / to imagine or expect that something will happen, sometimes taking action in preparation for it happening / regard as probable; expect or predict

Sentence: 1. They anticipate that they will have several applicants for the job. 2. We don't anticipate any trouble. 3. It was anticipated that the rains would slow the military campaign. 4. At this stage we can't really anticipate what will happen. 5. The organizers of the fair anticipate a large crowd.
