Word # 1

Divulge (verb)

Definition: reveal something private or secret / to make something secret known / to disclose or reveal (something private, secret, or previously unknown)

 

Sentence: 1. Journalists do no divulge their sources.  2. The managing director refused to divulge how much she earned. 3. The company will not divulge its sales figures. 4. She hesitates to divulge her age. 5. The students were not willing to divulge the truth to the teachers.


Word # 2

Binoculars (adjective)

Definition: come upon or found by accident or chance / found interesting or valuable thing by chance / occurring or discovered by chance in a happy or beneficial way

 

Sentence: 1. It was the serendipitous science discovery. 2. Reading should be an adventure, a personal experience full of serendipitous surprises. 3. I had a serendipitous encounter with her. 4. He serendipitously found the watch he had lost on the previous night.


Word # 3

Brawl (noun / verb)

Definition: a noisy, rough, uncontrolled fight / fight or quarrel in a rough or noisy way / to quarrel angrily and noisily

                                                          
Sentence: 1. A drunken / street brawl 2. Fans were brawling in the streets after the game. 3. The Wilsons were always loudly brawling, and the neighbors were always shutting their windows. 4. My friend and I got into a street brawl with the gang members.


Word # 4

Magnanimous (adjective)

Definition: very kind and generous towards an enemy or someone you have defeated / generous or forgiving, especially towards a rival or less powerful person

 

Sentence: 1. Arsenal's manager was magnanimous in victory, and praised the losing team. 2. When my uncle, who never married, donated much of his estate to a fund for children orphaned by Hurricane Katrina, everyone in our family was proud of his magnanimous gesture (act). 3. She should be magnanimous in victory. 


Word # 5

Diligent (adjective)

Definition: careful and using a lot of effort / having or showing care and conscientiousness in one’s work or duties / constant in effort to accomplish something; attentive and persistent in doing anything
 

Sentence: 1. Leo is very diligent in/about his work. 2. A diligent student 3. Their lawyer was extremely diligent in preparing their case. 4. After diligent searching, he found a parcel.
