Lesson No. 29



Word # 1

Stir (verb)

Definition: to mix a liquid or other substance by moving an object such as a spoon in a circular pattern / move a spoon or other implement round and round in (a liquid or other substance) in order to mix it thoroughly / move or cause to move slightly

                                                          
Sentence: 1. pour in the cream and stir well 2. Stir the sauce gently until it begins to boil. 3. Stir the egg yolks into the mixture. 4. A gentle breeze stirred the leaves.


Word # 2

Revive (verb)

Definition: to come or bring something back to life, health, existence, or use / restore to life or consciousness / give new strength or energy / improve the position or condition / restore or set in motion again

 

Sentence: 1. My plants revived as soon as I gave them some water. 2. A hot shower and a cup of tea will revive you. 3. Both men collapsed, but were revived. 4. The life guard had to revive the swimmer. 


Word # 3

Indulge (verb)

Definition: allow someone to follow his will / to allow yourself or another person to have something enjoyable, especially more than is good for you / to give someone anything they want and not to mind if they behave badly

 

Sentence: 1. Please indulge me while I review the topics we covered yesterday. 2. The museum is an excellent place to let children indulge their curiosity about dinosaurs. 3. She bought a house with a big yard so that she could indulge her passion for gardening. 4. If you continue to indulge in your envy, you will loose a good friend.


Word # 4

Persist (verb)

Definition: If an unpleasant feeling or situation persists, it continues to exist / continue in an opinion or course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition 

 

Sentence: 1. If you persist with this behavior, you will be punished. 2. If the pain persists, see a doctor. 3. Must you persist in making that noise? 4. If he persists in asking awkward questions, then send him to the boss.



Word # 5

Consistent (adjective)

Definition: always behaving or happening in a similar, especially positive, way / unchanging in nature, standard, or effect over time / not changing 

 

Sentence: 1. He is a consistent supporter of the museum. 2. Her work is sometimes good, but the problem is she's not consistent. 3. Customers expect that the quality of service they receive will be consistent. 4. The pain has been consistent.
