Word # 1

Phantom (noun / adjective)

Definition: a ghost / a spirit of a dead person believed by some to visit the living as a pale, almost transparent form of a person, animal or other object / something existing in appearance only / something apparently unpleasant or horrific that has no material form  / not real, illusory, fictitious or dummy
       
Sentence: 1. A phantom coach is said to pass through the grounds of this house when there's a full moon. 2. A phantom who scares people on lonely roads. 3. Phantoms of evil haunted his sleep.  4. The women suffered from phantom pain that no physician could ever find. 5. People claim to have seen a phantom ship floating on the lake. 6. Payroll checks were made out for phantom bank accounts and cashed by phantom employees.


Word # 2

Duet (noun / verb)

Definition: a performance by two singers, instrumentalists, or dancers / a musical composition for two voices or instruments / a song or other piece of music sung or played by two people together / to perform a duet

 

Sentence: 1. Now, according to reports, she's taken him back, and they're going to record a duet together. 2. They sang the duet beautifully. 3. A piano and flute duet 4. They duetted at the tribute concert. 5. He duetted with famous foreign artists in last decade (10 years).


Word # 3

Wilderness (noun)

Definition: an uncultivated, uninhabited, and inhospitable region / an area of land that has not been used to grow crops or had towns and roads built on it, especially because it is difficult to live in as a result of its extremely cold or hot weather or bad earth

 

Sentence: 1. Alaska is the last great wilderness. 2. The garden had become a wilderness of weeds and bushes. 3. She enjoys hikes through the wilderness. 4. They released the wolf back into the wilderness. 5. A voice in the wilderness / A voice crying in the wilderness


Word # 4

Infamous (adjective)

Definition: having an extremely bad reputation / famous for something considered bad / well known for some bad quality or deed / deserving of or causing an evil reputation

Sentence: 1. The band is infamous for their scandalous behavior, including trashing hotel rooms. 2. A city infamous for poverty and crime 3. An infamous traitor / crime / conduct / city / deed 4. Billy the Kid became the most infamous outlaw of the old west. 5. He is infamous for his bad behaviour. 


Word # 5

Ruthless (adjective)

Definition: having or showing no pity or compassion for others / not thinking or worrying about any pain caused to others; cruel / having no pity / merciless and cruel

Sentence: 1. Some people believe that to succeed in this world you have to be ruthless. 2. The journalist was ruthless in his criticism. 3. Since Machiavelli's name is still a byword for ruthless and immoral cunning. 4. In Pakistan, Musharaf is generally regarded as a ruthless dictator. 5. Ruthless people don't understand the meaning of forgiveness.
