Jurisdiction (noun)

Sentence: The volunteer fire department only has jurisdiction within one township. / The officer had no jurisdiction in this county. / School admissions are not under/within our jurisdiction.


Word # 2

Imbibe (verb)

Definition: to consume (liquids) by drinking / drink / absorb / soak up

Sentence: Plants imbibe moisture from the soil. / He imbibed great quantities of the tea. 




Word # 3

Succumb (verb)

Sentence: It appears the offer was enough for leaders to succumb to Washington’s pressure. / Hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.



Word # 4

Substitute (verb)

Sentence: You can substitute oil for butter in this recipe. / A substitute was called in when the teacher was in a meeting.
