Word # 1

Sterling (noun / adjective)

Sentence: (as noun) The value of sterling increased against several other currencies yesterday. & (as adjective) This is a sterling article on king’s performance.  

 

 

Word # 2

Pragmatic (adjective)

Sentence: In business, the pragmatic approach to problems is often more successful than an idealistic one. / The teacher has a very pragmatic attitude towards instructing her students.

 

 

Word # 3

Prolong (verb)

Sentence: However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction. / We were having such a good time that we decided to prolong our stay by another week.

 

 

Word # 4

Eliminate (verb)

Sentence: A move towards healthy eating could help eliminate heart disease. / Eliminate your opponent. / In order to succeed in business you must first eliminate the opposition.

 

 

Word # 5

Adequate (adjective)

Sentence: Garden crops need adequate watering to grow properly. / Have we got adequate food for twenty guests?
